'Unveiled' - The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence

The Vancouver Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are a 21st Century order of Queer nuns who believe in spreading universal joy and expellling stigmatic guilt.
‘Unveiled' is a series of 10 portraits of the Sisters ‘in face’ and also without their facial makeup, or in ‘Boy Drag’ as they call it. I photographed them on an ethereal white background, as if they were walking through heaven’s door.
I find the Sisters beautiful. The designs and vibrant colours they choose for their faces and the playful, sexy outfits they create themselves express their individuality. I am intrigued with how they express their masculine and feminine sides. They are masculine in appearance, but to me when they are ‘in face’, they transform into beautiful feminine Deities.

Cynthia Brooke || Vancouver Headshots

Meet Cynthia Brooke, ILWU Local 500 Longshoreman/Stevedore, Dapper member of the Leadfoot butch choir, and all around wonderful human being.
Cynthia came to me wanting portraits that reflected her Longshoreman pride and her pride in being a Butch woman.
I think we succeeded.

It appears I've become a Choral Choir groupie

It all started innocently enough with Cor Flammae and a group photo shoot with 21 of the most fabulously dressed Choral singers in Vancouver.
How do you top a shoot like that? Well, you have to do the next one on a rooftop. Obviously.
Feast your eyes on the Vancouver Cantata Singers. 25 elegantly dressed award-winning Choral singers.
Despite blaring sun (it was supposed to be dramatic clouds that day) and gusting winds we managed to capture a fantastic group shot of them.

Thanks to Olivia Chao and Debbie Pipe for shoot assistance and Debbie for taking these fun behind the scenes shots.

Canadian author Amber Dawn

I was thrilled when author Amber Dawn asked me to create 2015 promo images for her.
One of these beautiful images we created together will be used on the back of her new book jacket. Amber Dawn's new book of poetry will be revealed Spring of 2015!!

An evening with Cassie

I've been spending time with some amazing young folks lately, shooting unique GRAD portraits for their memory books.

Cassie's graduation outfit is bound with love and tradition. Her red button blanket was made by teenager Takeri Charlie of Chehalis, BC, who makes one blanket for each grad every year as her mother did before her.

Cassie's black gown is 65 years old and belonged to her grandmother who danced in it at the Commodore Ballroom. We had fun getting Cassie to twirl in that gown!!!

The exquisite white swan feather was beaded by Cassie, as well, she wore a cedar head piece she wove herself for her graduation ceremony.

Angela helped me with this Game of Thrones recreation. I'm happy with the result especially since we only had about 45 minutes to get the lights and coloured gels right.
